New Britain’s new baseball team the Bees have already started to give back to the community. The Bees recently announced that the team will be holding two baseball camps this summer for children. Taking place on July 9th and August 4th from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. participants will have a chance to practice fielding, hitting and pitching with Bees players and manager Stan Cliburn.
Tickets are $70 per participant for one session or $120 for those that sign up for both sessions. Included with the price of a ticket is a Bees’ camp t-shirt, a free wristband for admission to the Kids Fun Zone during a Bees game, a 10% discount at the Bees’ Store located at New Britain Stadium, and four tickets to any 2016 regular season Bees game.
Space is limited so parents are encouraged to sign their children up as soon as possible. To reserve a spot at the baseball camps, contact Bees’ Operations Manager Shaun O’Brien or the Operations Assistant, Ryan Mariotti by email.
Registration forms can also be downloaded on the Bees official website. Once the registration forms are filled out, can be mailed with payment to the Bees’ office. The mailing address for the Summer Baseball Camps should read, ATTN: Summer Baseball Camps, 230 John Karbonic Way, New Britain CT 06051. Forms and payment can also be made in person in the Bees’ front office during normal business hours, which are Monday through Friday from 9am until 4pm.
The Bees will also be holding a fundraiser on Friday the 17th during their home game against the Sugar Land Skeeters. It is in conjunction with the Bristol Veterans Council to help build a National Monument for the Special Guerrilla Unit.
The Special Guerrilla Unit National Monument Committee has just begun early planning on a monument that will be built on Downs Street in Bristol. Land for the monument has been donated by the City of Bristol. It will be built in honor of the over 35,000 Lao/Hmong freedom fighters who lost their lives while assisting the United States campaigns in Southeast Asia.
During the game on the 17th, fans who attend the Bees game will see military vehicles and uniformed SGU officers when arriving at New Britain Stadium. There will also be photographs and information kiosks about the SGU outside the stadium. A new, 3D image of the proposed Special Guerrilla Unit National Monument will be on display in the concourse during the game. Anyone attending the game is encouraged to make a donation.
For those not attending the game, but are interested in donating to the Special Guerrilla Unit National Monument, donations can be sent to the Bristol Veterans Council/SGU National Monument, PO Box 2634, Bristol, CT 06011. For more information on the monument or any questions that individuals might have, feel free to e-mail [email protected]. The Bristol Veterans Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
