New Britain’s Own Sen. Terry Gerratana and Rep. Bobby Sanchez Honored as “Children’s Champions”
Sen. Gerratana, and Rep. Sanchez have been named 2016 Children’s Champions by the CT Early Childhood Alliance. The Alliance is a statewide organization committed to improving outcomes in the areas of learning, health, safety, and economic security or chldren ages birth to eight. Every year, the Alliance recognizes legislators who worked closely with early childhood advocates to shape legislation that impacts the well-being of Connecticut’s young children in the areas of healthy development, early care and education, nutrition, and safety.
This year they will honor Sen. Terry Gerratana and Rep. Bobby Sanchez as two of 29 legislators named 2016 “Children’s Champions.”  Executive Director of the CT Early Childhood Alliance Merrill Gaye reports, “This year we recognize Senator Gerratana, who as the Senate chair of the Public Health Committee, won passage of bills on infant safe sleep practices, early developmental screening, and for her unwavering support of school based health clinics.”   And Senator Gerratana said, “I am honored to receive this award from the CT Early Childhood Alliance that shares my goals of ensuring the success and well-being of our youngest residents in our state. I am proud to be chosen as a ‘Children’s Champion’.”  Of Representative Sanchez, Merrill Gay shares, “Representative Sanchez is a repeat winner of the Children’s Champion award. As vice chair of the Education Committee he has been a strong and consistent voice for early childhood issues.”
The ceremony will take place this Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the New Britain Museum of American Art, 56 Lexington Street, New Britain.
