NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner to Honor 25 Influential African Americans

The NAACP New Britain Branch will present its 25 Most Influential Blacks in New Britain Award at its 2016 Freedom Fund Dinner on Saturday, October 8, 2016. The Freedom Fund Dinner is held annually to increase NAACP membership and advance the mission of the NAACP to advocate and organize for justice and equality.
With the theme ‘Our Lives Matter, Our Votes Count’, the 2016 Freedom Fund will feature keynote speaker Senator Gary Holder Winfield (D-New Haven, West Haven).
The event, at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cultural Center, 301 W. Main St. New Britain, will open with a reception at 6:30 p.m. and the dinner and program at 6:30 p.m. The $75 ticket price includes a one year NAACP membership and subscription to Crisis Magazine. The annual dinner supports the mission of the NAACP New Britain Branch to organize in New Britain and empower its residents to win a better, more equal, more just community by working in support of equal access to quality education, decent housing, health care, criminal justice reform, participatory democracy and much more.
The recipients of the 2016 25 Most Influential Blacks in New Britain Award are to be Dr. Richard Bachoo, Shirley Black, Alton F. Brooks, Tremell Collins, Torrence Conaway, Paulette Fox, Jason Gibson, Carlyle Hinds, Tebucky S. Jones, James Jones, Donna Lee Crockett, Elizabeth N’Konoki-Ward, Arthur Perry, Michael Peterson, Duane Pierre, Emmanuel Sanchez, Nicole Sanders, Darwin Shaw, Suff. Bishop Dale I. Shaw, Sr., Atty. George Springer, Jr., Gerri Brown-Springer, Alicia Strong, John Turner, Kevin Williams and Alphonse Wright.
One of the honorees, Arthur Perry, passed on recently. He has been lauded for his lifetime of organizing and advocating for workers rights and a better world.
