Fathers’ United Program Holds Benefit Dinner
The Human Resources Agency’s Fathers’ United Program held a fundraising dinner and comedy show on June 8th at the Puerto Rican Society hall on High Street.
Participants and supporters were recognized at the event that featured an appearance by Miss New Britain, Sylvana Maria Gonzalez, who will compete to Miss Connecticut this summer.
Isabelita Cancel, a Democratic Town Committee Member and voter registration activist, received an Outstanding Supporter award for her volunteer work for the Fathers United Program. State Rep. Bobby Sanchez recognized supporters and young fathers.
Fathers’ United has been organized and led by State Rep. Bobby Sanchez (D-25) at HRA, the city’s community action agency, for 16 years. The self-help group is based at HRA’s Head Start and Early Childhood Services programs.
State Rep. Bobby Sanchez (D-25) presented an outstanding support award to Vincent Placeres of MoFongo Restaurant, one of downtown’s newest eateries serving Puerto Rican cuisine.
Community supporters also included Angelo’s Market & Fine Catering.
