The New Britain school district has announced two big coaching decisions at New Britain High School, with Tebucky Jones re-appointed as the Head Football Coach and Kurt Reis being introduced as the Head Coach of the New Britain High School Boys Basketball Team.
Upon the recommendation of Superintendent Nancy Sarra, Athletic Director Len Corto and NBHS Principal Joseph Pinchera, Jones was re-appointed as head football coach by the Board of Education.
Corto, who coached Jones while he was at NBHS, said,“Tebucky is someone who will never turn his back on the youth of this city. Through his football camps and other various charitable acts, Jones has given the younger generation inspiration. When they see him – someone who had a nice career in the NFL – they know that if they work hard enough, they can make their dreams come true. Tebucky has always said that he will always give back to the youth of this city.”
“We are excited to bring Coach Jones back to the sidelines for this coming football season,” said Sarra. “We have a renewed commitment to athletics throughout our school district and we will provide Coach Jones with all the resources necessary to build a successful football program.”
Jones said that he is thankful for Sarra’s renewed approach to athletics. “I am looking forward to a fresh start. When you know the people above you support you, it makes everything easier. The administration has given me their unwavering support and the necessary resources to succeed. I look forward to continuing to build a successful football program both on and off the field.”
Reis, who comes from Hartford Public High School, where he coached since 2006, was recently introduced by as the new boys baskeball coach by Corto, who said, “Coach Reis is a veteran of high school basketball. He has proven to be successful throughout his coaching career and we are looking forward to him continuing that success here in New Britain.”
In Hartford, Reis compiled an overall record of 179-76, taking his team to the Class M State Championship Game in 2008.
“On December 16,” Reis said, “we’ll have our first game. The goal here is to win and to teach these kids how to play the game the right way. When you come out in December, you’ll see our kids playing exciting basketball with pride and toughness.” Reis will teach special education in addition to his role as coach.
