IMPACT Program at OIC Provides Opportunities for Young Adults
The IMPACT Program at New Britain Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) is accepting enrollment in its program for job development and support for young adults.
IMPACT stands for “Intelligence, Motivated, Patience, Attitude and Career Training. Free enrollment in the program is accepted by August 7, 2017. People, aged 18 to 24, who have a high school diploma or are close to completing a diploma or GED, are not enrolled in college and meet income requirements may be eligible for the program.
The twelve week Phase 1 of the program is on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 9:30am to 1:00pm. Classroom instruction at OIC and job development and support includes:
- Customer service
- Job Shadowing
- Internship
- Continued case management
Phase 2 of the program, based on successful completion of Phase 1, is determined by Tunxis Community College. It includes certificate programs in:
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- Pharmacy Technician
The regional workforce development agency, Capitol Workforce Partners, lists IMPACT OIC as one of the WIOA Youth programs it supports. Capitol Workforce Partners describes WIOA Youth programs as,
Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) programs are designed to involve targeted participants in training and skills building activities to engage them in their local workforce. All programs are for youth ages 18 – 24 in the Hartford and New Britain areas.
