Students Organize for Immigrant Rights and Rally Sept 14th
The student organization, CHANGE, will hold a rally at CCSU Thursday, September 14, 2017, “in support of the immigrant population and their families at this university and around the country.”
The rally comes at a time when immigrant communities have come under powerful attack by Republican President Donald Trump and his allies.
Trump has recently decided to revoke the policy, enacted by former Democratic President Barack Obama, DACA, that provided legal protection against deportation for around 800,000 people brought to the United States as children.
Also, the conservative United States Supreme Court just, as the Washington Post reported, “agreed with the Trump administration Tuesday and put on hold a lower-court decision that would have allowed more refugees to enter the country”, from six, predominantly Muslim countries, before the Court’s full decision on Trump’s ban. Many New Britain residents are immigrants from countries affected by Trump’s “travel ban”.
The rally will be at 4:00pm in the Student Center Circle on the campus of CCSU.
