300th Win for NBHS Volleyball Coach
“Having been born, raised, and schooled in New Britain, this milestone means a lot to me,” New Britain High School’s Head Volleyball Coach, Michelle Abraham, said after earning her 300th career win. “The players who have played for the past 30 years have been such an intricate part of this accomplishment.”
Abraham has a long history with NBHS athletics, dating back to her own career as a high school athlete. A 1985 NBHS graduate, she was awarded the Frank DiLoreto Award, given to NBHS’s top female athlete, after being a three sport letter recipient in volleyball, basketball and softball.
Abraham has been an educator in the New Britain school district for more than thirty years. She is currently a teacher at Brook Side School, formerly the Alternative Center School, and, was selected as the 2013-2014 Alternative Center Teacher of the Year.
As a coach, Abraham has worked to build the girls’ volleyball program, earning a career record of 301 wins and 282 losses.
“Michelle Abraham is a focused professional. She leads her squad in a way where she always gets the most out of the talent she has,” said New Britain school district Athletic Director, Len Corto. “She is the best coach in the history of New Britain High School volleyball.”
“Every win has meant so much,” said Abraham. “Not only have the players been so important in this, but the administration as well as all the teaching staff that have helped groom our student athletes. Without the support from everyone, none of this could ever be possible. This is a total community accomplishment and I thank you all.”
