New Britain Pride has announced the City of Pride Launch Party to kick-off its “City of Pride Initiative”.

he Launch Party fundraising event will held February 23, 2018, from 6:00pm to 10:00pm at the Back Nine Tavern.
New Britain Pride says that it, “was formed in August 2017 as a nonpartisan organization whose goal is to spread understanding and advocate for the LGBT community through pride celebrations, advocacy, and education.”
The organization is planning several events in June in celebration of Pride Month in New Britain.

The majority of Pride events are held in June to commemorate the anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion in New York City on June 28, 1969, which most historians consider to be the birth of the modern LGBT movement. At the time, police raids on bars catering to LGBT patrons were common, but that night, the patrons of the Stonewall Inn fought back. While historical accounts of the night vary, the violent response ignited a national firestorm of activism that brought new visibility to the struggle for LGBT equality.
“I am excited to co-host New Britain Pride’s “City of Pride” fundraiser as the liaison to this community organization,” said City Council Minority Leader Ald. Robert Smedley (R-4).
Donations at the February 23rd event are $30 for adults and $15 for children. The Back Nine Tavern is at the Stanley Golf Course at 245 Hartford Road.
