Interfaith Concert for Peace and Unity, Apr 29th.
Rev. Bryan Sirchio and the Spottswood African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church Choir will perform at an, “Interfaith Concert for Peace and Unity,” that the community is invited to join on Sunday, April 29, 2018.
The concert, “”Many Voices, One Song,” is sponsored by New Britain Area Interfaith Conference (NEWBAIC) and will be held at the First Church of Christ, Congregational, at 830 Corbin Avenue.
The all-ages concert begins at 3:00pm.
“Join your neighbors for an uplifting afternoon of music!” says the event’s invitation.
Refreshments will be served at the concert. No fees will be charged and no offering will be taken.
“Simply bring yourself and maybe a friend!” the invitation says.
Rev. Sirchio, who the event features, is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ. As the invitation for the concert says, he, “writes and performs music celebrating God’s love and justice, and promoting unity and understanding among diverse people.”
On his Crosswinds Music website, Rev. Sirchio says that,
My all-ages concerts usually involve a good deal of audience participation and a combination of funny, light-hearted material as well as more serious ballads and story songs. I deal a lot with the biblical call to “do justice” in my music, and draw from my extensive work traveling and working in so-called “third world” countries in order to speak to the heart of issues of social justice. But I’m not into laying guilt trips on people–it’s much more about lovingly and joyfully responding to God’s invitation to show compassion to those most in need, and to also ask why people are poor or marginalized in the first place. I also sing and talk a lot about what it means to be in an ongoing relationship with God, and am sensitive to the fact that lots of folks are just trying to make it through the day or find some meaning in their lives.
The Sunday concert in New Britain is a part of a weekend-long event, “A Weekend with Bryan Sirchio,” in Meriden, Southington and New Britain involving concerts and a, “Progressive Christian Worship Music Workshop.”
