Gubernatorial Candidate Ganim to Hold “Meet and Greet” in New Britain
New Britain supporters of Joe Ganim’s candidacy for governor have announced that the Bridgeport Mayor will have a “Meet and Greet” event in New Britain.
“Come out tomorrow and find out why people are supporting JOE, why he has raised more money than other candidates, why did the people reelected him to the City of Bridgeport, and how he’s going to change Connecticut,” said New Britain resident Pablo Rodriguez.
Rodriguez is a neighborhood activist in the North Oak neighborhood who was recently elected as the Vice President of the North Oak Neighborhood Revitalization Zone (NRZ).
The event will be held on May 9, 2018 at 6:00pm at the The Kitchen restaurant at 136 Main Street.
In 2015, Ganim defeated incumbent Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch in a Democratic primary, returning to office as that city’s mayor after, according to CTMirror, “resigning after his conviction in 2003 on 16 felonies, including extortion.”
While he won re-election as mayor, his conviction means that he is barred from participating in the Citizen Election Program, which allows candidates to run for public office without reliance on private fundraising and, as CTMirror reports is, “fighting skepticism that a convicted felon can win statewide office.”
Other candidates competing for the Democratic nomination for governor include businessman Ned Lamont, former Veterans Affairs Commissioner Sean Connolly and former Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz.
