There will be a “A Place at the Table” fundraiser on May 20, 2018 to aid two families, one who are facing deportation. The event is being held by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) People Power-New Britain and St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Both of the families that the organizations are working to help are longtime residents of New Britain, and both have children who are U.S. citizens.
The event will feature “Bread and Roses,” who are a well known singing group in Connecticut. “Bread and Roses” sings songs around themes of social justice. Event organizers say that the group, “will lead everyone in singing songs of justice and peace.”
Speakers at the event will speak about issues faced by members of the immigrant community.
The concert and dinner, beginning at 4:00pm on May 20th, will be at the social hall of St. John’s Lutheran Church, which is at 303 Arch Street.
Dinner for the fundraiser will be from Pizza Corner Restaurant, which is at 36 Broad Street, and will include fresh garden salad, home baked desserts and, of course, pizza .
