Democrats Nominate Sanchez and Tercyak for Re-Election, Republicans Nominate Collins in 26th
The New Britain Democrats nominated State Rep. Bobby Sanchez (D-25) and State Rep. Peter Tercyak (D-26th) for re-election in the two State Assembly districts that are entirely within New Britain.
The Twenty-Fifth District and the Twenty-Sixth District are both entirely within New Britain. Each party’s town committee directly endorses candidates for those seats.
Democrats met at City Hall on May 24, 2018 to make their endorsements in the two districts.
Republicans met a day earlier, also at City Hall. Former Republican City Council member Tremell Collins (R-AL) announced that, “Tonight the New Britain Republican Town Committee had its convention for the 26th District. I am very honored and proud to be ‘officially’ nominated as the Republican candidate running for office.”
Sanchez is running for his fifth term as the State Representative for the Twenty-Fifth Assembly District. He serves as Vice Chair of the state legislature’s Education Committee, and serves on the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee, the Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee and the Labor and Public Employees Committee.
Sanchez has been a community activist in the city, going back to activism with Citizens for Action in New Britain, and he is a former member of the New Britain Board of Education. He works at the Human Resources Agency of New Britain as a case manager and Fatherhood Initiative Coordinator.
Tercyak has represented the Twenty-Sixth Assembly District since 2003, when he was elected to succeed his father, the late State Representative Tony Tercyak (R-26). He serves on the Appropriations Committee, the Energy and Technology Committee and the Public Health Committee.
A registered nurse for three decades, Tercyak has worked providing psychiatric and substance abuse care. He presently does home care nursing.
Tercyak has been a longtime union activist, who took that activism into the state legislature, working on health care access and worker’s rights.
The nominations are for the election to be held November 6, 2018.
