Former Major League Pitcher Among Two New Bees Players
The New Britain Bees have added a former major league pitcher to their bullpen, one of two new players that the team announced that they have signed.
Left handed pitcher Adam Loewen has played for the Baltimore Orioles, the Toronto Blue Jays, Philadelphia Phillies and the Arizona Diamondbacks. He has a 10-8 record, with 159 strikeouts and a 5.85 ERA in his sixty-three Major League appearances. He started twenty-nine Major League games and pitched 189.1 innings.
While Loewen was a pitcher for Baltimore, Philadelphia and Arizona, he was a batter for Toronto.
He played 232 minor league games for the Baltimore, Toronto, New York Mets, Philadelphia, Arizona and Texas Rangers organizations. He had eighty-seven starts as pitcher in the minor leagues. In 614.1 innings pitched, he had 625 strikeouts and a 3.41 ERA. He earned a 39-32 record.
The thirty-four year old Loewen was Baltimore’s first round pick of the 2002 MLB amateur draft, and was the fourth pick, overall.
“Adam is another big league arm that will give us valuable innings out of our bullpen,” said Bees General Manager Brad Smith.
Joining Loewen will be twenty-four-year-old Vicente Conde, who comes to New Britain in his fifth year playing professional baseball.
Prior to signing with the Bees, Conde played for minor league teams in the New York Yankees organization. He was ninth round pick by the Yankees in the 2014 MLB amateur draft after playing for Vanderbilt University.
Conde has a .206 minor league batting average in 321 games. He has 105 RBIs, 133 runs scored, plus twelve home runs and fifty-six doubles.
Smith said, “Vicente adds solid defense up the middle and a good approach at the plate.”
“These two players are important additions as we are making our stretch run for the first half,” Smith added.
As of June 28, 2018, the Bees were third in the Atlantic League’s Liberty Division. They were four games out of first place, with a 28 wins and 28 losses.
