“The Color Purple” at Connecticut Theater Company Jul 13 to Aug 5th
The Connecticut Theater Company will open its musical presentation of “The Color Purple” on July 13, 2018.
A review by Anna Foca say Alice Walker’s novel, The Color Purple, “documents the traumas and gradual triumph of Celie, a young African-American woman raised in rural isolation in Georgia, as she comes to resist the paralyzing self-concept forced on her by those who have power over her.”
The Theater describes its presentation, saying, “This musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel (and the popular 1985 Steven Spielberg film) spotlights Celie, a downtrodden young woman whose personal awakening over the course of 40 years forms the arc of this epic story.”
“With a joyous score featuring jazz, ragtime, gospel, African music and blues, The Color Purple is a story of hope, a testament to the healing power of love and a celebration of life,” the Theater adds.
