Welcoming Kids on the First Day of School
The New Britain Branch of the NAACP Education Committee organized a contingent of African American and other men of color to welcome and encourage students coming into the Northend Elementary School on the first day of the 2018-2019 school year.
“[The New Britain] NAACP, Spottswood AME Zion Church and City of New Britain welcomes students, at Northend School to first day of school,” said New Britain NAACP President Ronald P. Davis as a comment to a photo from the event that he had posted on Facebook. “Well done!”
The NAACP had called on African American and other men of color to participate in the event, which take place on the morning of Thursday, August 30, 2018. “Let’s join together, on the school grounds, and give encouragement to our children as they begin a new school year,” the NAACP had said.
The NAACP had asked participants to encourage kids at the elementary school and to, “let them know we will there, for them, in good times and bad times as they challenge themselves to learn as much as they can learn.”
NAACP said that, “Our presence, on their 1st day of school as they get off the bus, will be a lasting impression on their young developing minds.”
