Diaspora Society Multicultural Festival, Sep 15th.
The Diaspora Multicultural Society will be hosting its 2018 Multicultural Festival on Saturday, September 15th.
“Connecticut’s only Multicultural social club is excited to host our first annual Multicultural Festival,” says the Diaspora Society . “This family- friendly event will feature amazing performances as well as food and merchandise vendors. Don’t miss experiencing some of the rich culture that contributes to our community.”
The Society says that, “The festival will allow attendees to celebrate, participate in, and experience the rich diversity of our community’s populace.” There will be food, live performances, vendors and other attractions at the event.
The Festival will be from 12:00pm to 8:00pm.
The Society has announced a number of performers and participants for the festival, including, “Hip hop artist CRSBLK (Chris Black)- Ghanaian-American Bronx Native and Hip Hop Creative.”
“CRSBLK made his debut in 2014 with “The World Is A Ghetto,’ shot in Ghana,” says the society, “and has been slowly buzzing in the underground circuit following the release of his EP 8Million Stories. Since then he’s made appearances on Red Carpets, Festivals and Runways. Currently Crs’ has been creating, working on the detail of story telling experiences growing up African in a the hard streets of The Bronx.”
“I want to connect the African struggle with the Black American dream and prove to everyone that we share similar conflicts.” the Society quotes CRSBLK as saying.
“We are thrilled to have Destiny Africa Children’s Choir (all the way from Uganda!) confirmed to perform at our Multicultural Festival as part of their 2018 U.S. Tour!!!”, the Society has announced, “This multi-talented children’s choir has been touring in the UK, Belgium, and United States since 2009 and deliver an amazing, heartfelt experience of joy and hope!”
The Society says that Destiny Africa Children’s Choir, “have been blessed with many opportunities to perform for Uganda’s President and Vice President, the UK Prime Minister and members of Parliament, UK Symphony Hall, at U.S. State Houses and for government officials, at the United Nations, the Ugandan Embassy, and more!”
“Jesus Rosa, also known as Jai International,” will be a performer at the festival, the Society announced, saying he, “is a Community Leader, HIV Activist, Poet, Rapper and Creative Director. Jai currently is a Program Supervisor for clients that battle with Mental Health,” adding, “Come meet him and feel the power of his words on September 15th!”
The Society announced performance by, “Master Roberto Cepeda and his lovely wife, Gloria Lopez de Cepeda, of Bomba Ashe. They are not only talented, but living legends. Mr. Cepeda’s father, Don Rafael Cepeda, and his mother, Doña Caridad Brenes, were the pioneers who took Bomba and Plena from Puerto Rico onto stages and theaters all over the world. Experience the legacy of Afro-Puerto Rican music on September 15th- the Cepedas and Bomba Ashe.”
The Society recently announced, “Estamos contentos de presentarles a Mr. KLK. Artista urbano del rap y trap. Vengan a verlo este sábado, 15 de septiembre!”
Artist and filmmaker Joe Young was also announced by the Society as a guest at the festival, “He will be giving some demonstrations you don’t want to miss, and you might just have a chance to purchase some of his one-of-a kind creations.”
The festival will be at the Diaspora Multicultural Society hall, located at 90 John Street.
The Society says, “Diaspora’s mission is to provide a space for a diverse crowd to commingle and build community. The club has coordinated events, disaster relief efforts, fundraisers, cultural celebrations, and informative programs – often in collaboration with other community organizations.”
