HITW Presents “A Doll’s House”
The Hole in the Wall Theater will present Henrik Ibsen’s renown play, A Doll’s House, in November and December of 2018.
The play by Ibsen, a Norwegian playwright, was first published in 1878 under the title Notes on the Tragedy of the Present Age. Featuring the middle class couple, Nora Helmer, and her husband, Torvald, the play is social commentary on the role and rights of women in society.
In introducing its production of the play, the Theater says that,
Nora has everything–a husband, children, money, a house, friends… but the world is not as perfect as it seems, and eventually she must choose between her comfortable suburban life and her self-respect.
The play is has been recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in its “Memory of the World” registry. UNESCO says that, “A Doll’s House is an exceptional achievement,” and that Nora, “has served and serves as a symbol throughout the world, for women fighting for liberation and equality.”
