Hayes to Attend New Britain Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration
Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (D-5) will attend the Martin Luther King Jr., City-Wide Celebration hosted by the Mary McLeod Bethune Club and the Black Ministers Alliance.
Hayes will join New Britain residents in celebration the life and work of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and continuing work of the civil rights movement on Martin Luther King Day in 2019.
The Celebration, which will be at Spottswood AME Zion Church, at 25 Crestwood Lane, on Monday, January 21, 2019, will feature Guest Speaker Nicole Crawford-Rodriguez. Crawford-Rodriguez is the President of the Board of Education.
The event, which will will have the theme, “Unity2019,” will begin at 1:00pm.
The Mary McLeod Bethune Club says that, “The Public is Welcome to Attend.”
The event at Spottswood AME Zion Church will be one of a day of community celebrations of Martin Luther King Day in the city on January 21st.
The City Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities will hold its annual event honoring Dr. King at Trinity-On-Main at 69 Main Street. The event will begin at 10:30am. Light refreshments will be served.
The event will feature artwork and writing of New Britain students and performances by the NBHS Madrigals and others.
The New Britain Museum of American Art (NBMAA) will also have a Community Day. “To honor Martin Luther King, Jr.,” NBMAA says, “the Museum will be open on a special Monday and offer free admission to all on Monday, January 21.”
The Museum invites the public to a, “Gallery Talk,” at 1:00pm on the work of African-American artists Titus Kaphar and Radcliffe Bailey, followed at 2:00pm a performance by the Main Street Children’s Choir of traditional spirituals.
