DeLandro to Receive 100 Women of Color Honors
New Britain resident Veronica DeLandro, who is District Director for Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (D-5), is to be honored in the Class of 2019 100 Women of Color.
DeLandro is a local activist in New Britain. She has been active in the NAACP New Britain Branch and Democratic politics.
In 2017, DeLandro ran a strong campaign for the City Council in the First Ward. While she did not win that election, she was immediately selected by the incoming Council as its Clerk of Committees.
In December, DeLandro was named as the District Director for newly elected Congresswoman Hayes.
DeLandro is a Past President of the Hartford Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Among the many other leadership roles she has held are serving as executive director of two nonprofit organizations, the College Summit, Inc. and the Aurora Women and Girls Foundation Inc.
The work of DeLandro and other honorees will be recognized at the 100 Women of Color Gala & Awards event on April 5, 2019.
June Archer of Eleven28 Entertainment says, on the Gala’s event site, “The 100 Women of Color Gala & Awards will recognize the contributions that these women of color in business, education, entrepreneurship, entertainment, government, public service and the impact they have made on the lives of people throughout the State of Connecticut and Western Massachusetts communities.”
Archer continues, “A portion of the proceeds from this annual event will support scholarships for young women who graduate from high school and plan on attending College, leadership and mentorship programs.”
The event is to be held at the Bushnell Theater at 166 Capitol Avenue in Hartford from 7:00pm to 11:00pm. Tickets are available at on the Gala’s event site and at 860-987-5900.
