Postponed: School District Hosting Internet Safety Workshops
Editor’s note: The school district has announced that the workshop is postponed to February 19, 2019 due to inclement weather.
The Consolidated School District of New Britain has announced that it is hosting separate workshops on internet safety for children and parents on Tuesday.
The school district says that it, “in partnership with Scott Driscoll from Internet Safety Concepts, will be talking to students in 7th and 8th grade about the importance of internet safety.”
The school district says that, at the program for students, to be held during the school day, ” Students will learn why sharing too much information is dangerous, how strangers and predators may be interacting with them on popular apps, the dangers of cyberbullying, and more. The presentation will encourage students to be aware of how these things can hurt them now and/or in their future.”
The school district is also holding a workshop for parents only in the evening on Tuesday, January 29, 2019.
At the program for parents, the school district says Driscoll, “will focus on current online trends, the dangers of it, and how they can keep their children safe. “
The program for parents will be from 6:30pm to 8:00pm in the Lecture Hall at New Britain High School at 110 Mill Street. “Please note,” says the school district, “that due to the sensitive nature of the discussion and materials being shown, this workshop is for parents only and children may not attend.”
