Criminal Justice Town Hall Meeting Planned
The New Britain Branch of the NAACP and the Black Democratic Club of New Britain will be hosting a Town Hall meeting on criminal justice.
The Town Hall is the third meeting in a series being held in February by the two organizations for Black History Month.
The criminal justice Town Hall meeting is to be on February 15th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The event will be at the Fellowship Center at St. James Missionary Baptist Church at 45 Daly Avenue.
Acting Chief of Police Christopher Chute is expected to be at the Town Hall meeting. Among other subjects, Chute will be available to discuss the Police Department’s recent decision to clear five officers in a police shooting that occurred on Chapman Street on December 14, 2017. The New Britain Police report and decisions on the incident focused on procedural policies and changes in training for police officers that would be made as a result the review that the Department conducted.
NAACP and Black Democrats have already held two Town Hall meeting in the series. The first, on the subject of education, was on February 1st and a second, on economic development and housing, was on February 8th.
The final Town Hall meeting in the planned series is to be on February 22nd on health care, Social Security and Medicare. It is planned to be at the Peace Baptist Church.
The Town Hall meeting series is being organized under the theme, “Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community.”
