Family Forum Planned on Schools Budget
The Consolidated School District of New Britain is focusing its February, “Family/Community Forum,” on the school system budget for the upcoming budget year.
“This forum will provide an opportunity for New Britain families to be heard and continue to engage in ensuring CSDNB continues to be the best at getting better,” the school district continued.
The February Family and Community Forum will be on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.
The Forum will be at New Britain High School, at 110 Mill Street.
On January 7, 2019, the Board of Education voted to propose a budget for New Britain schools that would increase the local education budget by $5,010,625. The proposal would represent a 3.99% increase in the schools budget in the upcoming 2019-2020 fiscal year, if it were approved by the city.
At the recent Town Hall Meeting on education hosted by the NAACP New Britain Branch and the Black Democratic Club of New Britain, schools Superintendent Nancy Sarra said that it would take an additional $30 million per year of funding to provide an equitable education for New Britain students.
Republican Mayor Erin Stewart has until early April to issue her City Budget.
The Family and Community Forum is hosted by Sarra and school school staff, PAVE NB, Great Schools Partnership and Everyday Democracy.
