Springtime Weather Arrives for North-Oak Clean-Up
The North-Oak NRZ held its most recent neighborhood clean-up event on Saturday, May 18th, a bright and sunny springtime day.
North Oak NRZ leaders had delayed the planned date for the clean-up from May 4th because of expected rainy weather that day. That decision was richly rewarded, as the rain and colder weather that dominated recent days gave way to a spectacular, almost summery springtime morning for the clean-up event.
Dozens of volunteers gathered for an 8:30am breakfast, and then headed out with gloves, rakes and garbage bags to pick up trash and beautify the neighborhood.
Neighborhood activists and volunteers were joined in the effort by State Rep. Bobby Sanchez (D-25). City Council members, including its President, Ald. Eva Magnuszewski (D-AL), Ald. Richard Reyes (D-AL), Ald. Willie Pabon (R-1), Ald. Aram Ayalon (D-3), Ald. Kristian Rosado (D-2) and Ald Don Naples (R-4) joined the activity, as well as Board of Education member Yvonne Muniz (D) and Democratic mayoral candidate Chris Porcher.
The North-Oak Neighborhood Revitalization Zone, with activist leadership and members, have organized many volunteer neighborhood clean-up activities.
The North Oak NRZ is a community organization, formed under state law, that is committed to the social and economic progress in the North-Oak neighborhood.
