Event to Celebrate LaResse Harvey’s Journey
Saying, “second chances work,” local organizations are holding a benefit event, “Celebrating LaResse Harvey’s 20 years of Successful Reentry.”
The event is sponsored by the Opportunities Industrialization Center of New Britain, ParaDYM and the Civic Trust Public Lobbying Company.
Event organizer says that,
We are celebrating the life of LaResse Buttons Harvey. Since her release she has trained youth and adults on organizing and advocacy throughout Connecticut. Ms. Harvey has changed policies in criminal justice, prison, education, environmental, pardon and drug policy reform.
The event is to be on September 19, 2019. It will be held from 6:00pm to 10:00pm, at OIC.
New Britain OIC is at 114 North Street.
Organizers point out that proceeds from the event are, “to train New Britain youth at OIC and ParaDYM afterschool program in organizing, advocacy and civics!”
“This celebration is for a worthier cause,” say event organizers, “Youth Advocacy Academy for youth of incarcerated and formally incarcerated parents. These youth have a voice, concerns and needs, while dealing with trauma. Ms. Harvey is an expert professionally and through personal experiences.”
Event tickets for the event are available online.
LaResse Buttons Harvey is the author of the book, Button’s Journey: My first two years living with PTSD.
In the book, Harvey tells of, “What happened to her as a child, prisoner, adult, and most importantly how she began to live again.”
