Which Park? The Answer
On August 11, 2019, the New Britain Progressive asked readers to guess in which of New Britain’s city parks photos were taken.
New Britain has a variety of parks, with different features, from sports facilities to idyllic woods.
The photos in the August 11th article taken were of woodland views, and that narrowed the results of the survey responses.
Thirty-one percent of those who responded said that the photos were of Stanley Quarter Park.
Most visitors to Stanley Quarter probably spend most of their time there enjoying a walk around the pond or playing on the sports fields. But many people also know that most of the park is actually wooded, with many formal and beaten paths to enjoy.
But most people, forty-two percent, said that the photos were taken in the nearby A.W. Stanley Park.
A.W. Stanley has pool facilities and cookout areas. But its idyllic woodlands are well-known and much beloved. The photos certainly could have been taken there.
But they weren’t.
Most people in New Britain have probably been quite close to the location where these photos were actually taken – in Willow Brook Park.
The location is just off of John Karbonic Way, across from the tennis courts. It is right near New Britain High School.
While Willow Brook Park is now best known for the stadiums where high school and professional sports are played, it also features woods.
There is a strip of wooded parkland that extends from the stadium parking lots, up to Buell Street, and that is where this attractive location is.
Nineteen percent of the people who responded correctly identified the location as Willow Brook Park.
The New Britain Progressive thanks the many readers who participated in this quiz. We plan to continue doing these occasional quizzes. The New Britain Progressive hopes you enjoyed this one, and that you continue to enjoy New Britain’s beautiful city parks.
