Moving Mountains After-School Program Announced by OIC

The Opportunities Industrialization Center of New Britain (OIC) has announced its 2019-2020 Moving Mountains After-School Program.

Moving Mountains

OIC says that the program, for girls and boys from the sixth to eighth grade,

helps students develop academic and social skills that will help them transition into high school, be successful in their classes, and graduate ready for college and adulthood. Moving Mountains emphasizes leadership skills, academics, self esteem, positive behavior, cultural awareness, and study skills.

The program includes homework help, sports and fitness, a boy/girl council, STEAM activities, a celebration of youth, recreational activities, field trips and holiday events.

OIC says that the program benefits from a fun and friendly staff and parental involvement, and is held in a safe place.

The free program is available to youth attending Slade, Pulaski, DiLoreto and HALS middle schools. OIC says that transportation is provided from school to the OIC building and home after the program.

The program is held from 3:00pm to 5:30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from September 23, 2019 to May 14, 2019. The program is not held on school half days.

OIC says that, “You must sign up and receive verbal or written confirmation before starting the OIC program.”

OIC asks those interested in more information call 860-224-7151, extension 14.

The program is funded by the American Savings Foundation and the United Way of North Central Connecticut.

OIC of New Britain say that it

is founded on a belief in the potential of every human being.  We believe that through encouragement, inspiration and training our participants will be inspired to become self-supporting and contributing members of the economy and society.

OIC is located at 114 North Street.
