NAACP Greets Students and Staff on First School Day
With the school year beginning, members of the New Britain NAACP gathered to greet students and staff on the first day of classes.
The New Britain Branch of the NAACP organized to greet and encourage Jefferson Elementary School students arriving for their first school day of the year, as well as Dr. Shamel C. Lewis, their Principal, and other staff.
NAACP members gave students high fives and pencils to encourage them to have an excellent academic year.
The 2019-2020 school year began on Tuesday, September 3rd.
The NAACP said that, “Rev. Gervais Barger, Pastor of Peace Ministries, led prayer with school officials to be protected from adverse situations seen and unseen and that teachers will remain equipped to meet challenges that lay ahead to ensure each child is reached with maximum resources to excel beyond what is expected.”
The New Britain NAACP said that it, “will work closely with Nancy Sarra, Superintendent of New Britain Consolidated Schools, in partnership to produce the best of the best students in our communities.”
NAACP President Ronald P. Davis also gave, “Special thanks to mayoral candidate Christopher Porcher for being a part of this move of encouraging children for higher heights and to be all that one can be.”
Ald. Brian Keith Albert (D-2) participated in the event, as well.
