Veterans Day was originally established as Armistice Day commemorating the end of War War I and honoring those who fought and gave their lives in that war. In creating the commemoration, Congress said that,
it is fitting that the recurring anniversary of this date should be commemorated with thanksgiving and prayer and exercises designed to perpetuate peace through good will and mutual understanding between nations
It was later renamed Veterans Day to honor all veterans.
The Museum says that the critically acclaimed They Shall Not Grow Old, “Crafted from exclusive, unseen footage obtained from the BBC and Imperial War Museum’s archives, the film utilizes incredible advancements in technology to colorize and incorporate sound.”
“Voiceover and dialogue,” the Museum says, “was excerpted from oral-history archives and was voiced by veterans of the war, describing their experiences.”
