Robert Hyde, a Republican 2020 candidate for the Congressional district representing New Britain, is being criticized for an alleged online comment.
In a Tweet alleged attributed to Hyde, he is allegedly quoted making lewd sexual references about U.S. Senator Kamala Harris, in reaction to her ending her 2020 Presidential candidacy.
“Robert Hyde’s social media comment about the Senator Harris’ decision to end her political campaign is simply disgusting,” said Connecticut Democratic Party Chair and former Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman. “And the fact that it was made by a Republican candidate for Congress and remained online until today is even more concerning.”
As of today, the comment does not appear to be online.
Wyman called on state Republicans to, “end Mr. Hyde’s congressional bid.”
Connecticut State Senate Republican Leader Len Fasano (R-34) has also reportedly called on Hyde to end his candidacy. “This type of behavior and these words are flat out disgusting and morally reprehensible,” WFSB reported Fasano saying. “His comments are beyond disgraceful and offensive and his actions are not representative of the Republican Party at all. He needs to remove himself as a candidate immediately.”
Hyde’s campaign website says that he, “is an ardent support of our duly elected president, President Trump, and his agenda of renewing American Greatness.”
His website also emphasizes that he is a, “fierce supporter,” of the Second Amendment.
The Connecticut Fifth Congressional District includes New Britain, Meriden, Waterbury, Danbury, the Farmington river valley and the northwest hills.
United States Representative Jahana Hayes (D-5) represents the Fifth Congressional District.
As of the publication of this article, neither Hyde’s Facebook nor Twitter sites appear mention that he was resigning as a candidate.
