New Britain to Honor Martin Luther King Day

The 2020 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day will be honored in New Britain with various events and activities throughout the city on Monday, January 20th.

Included in the ceremonies and evens will be the city Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities event honoring King’s birthday. That event, to will start at 11:00am with light refreshments and a program is to start at 11:30am. It will be held at Smalley Elementary School at 175 West Street. The Guest Keynote speaker for the event is Dr. Jackie Evans Phillips.

A Martin Luther King celebration event is planned for 12:30pm at Trinity-On-Main. Trinity-On-Main is located at 69 Main Street.

The Mary McLeod Bethune Club, in partnership with NAACP New Britain Chapter, will hold the 2020 Martin Luther King, Jr. Citywide Celebration. That event will be held at 1:30pm at Spottswood A.M.E. Zion Church at at 25 Crestwood Lane. New Britain Native Basil Niccolls, Jr, is to be the Guest Speaker for the event.

The New Britain Museum of American Art will also hold its 2020 Community Day in recognition of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Saying that its admission on Martin Luther King Day is, ‘Free for everyone, all day,” the Museum, from 12:00pm to 4:00pm will have tours of works by African-American artists, music and activities for families.

People in New Britain have long remembered on honored the life and work of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and continuing work of the civil rights movement, in events held each year on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and the Memorial Celebration in remembrance of the date of his assassination in April.
