SOUPerBowl Planned to Benefit Soup Kitchen

Regardless of who you are rooting for in the Superbowl, New Britain’s Friendship Service Center inviting everyone to a SOUPerBowl event to help those in need.

Saying that the SOUPerBowl event is “us against hunger,” the Friendship Center says that it is partnering, “with the CCSU Ceramics Department and E.C. Goodwin Technical High School in an Empty Bowl Event to raise awareness of hunger and poverty in the community and elsewhere.”

Event organizers explain that, “bowls are purchased as entrance to the event and attendees are able to enjoy a simple meal by sampling the soups/chili/chowders provided in a community setting with others! The guest then keeps the bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world.”

Organizers say that the event is to feature a soup cook-off. “We are looking for area restaurants or groups to participate by donating one or more variations of soup, chili or chowder to be served inside one of hundreds of beautifully handcrafted ceramic bowls donated by the CCSU ceramics department.”

“Last year we had over 400 people in attendance,” say event organizers.

The event is to be Thursday, January 30, 2020. It is to be from 4:30pm to 7:00pm at E.C. Goodwin Technical High School. E.C. Goodwin is located at 735 Slater Road.

The admission to the event is $20 for adults and $15 for students. Tickets are available online. “All the proceeds from this event go to our Community Soup Kitchen that feeds approximately 250 people daily,” event organizers say.

Event organizers are also seeking sponsors for event. “For more details,” event organizers say, “email Barbara Lazarski at [email protected] 860-225-0211 x 202 or Adrian Elliott x 214.”
