NBMAA to Hold Mardi Gras ‘Museum After Dark’

The New Britain Museum of American Art (NBMAA) plans to feature a Mardi Gras theme at its next ‘Museum After Dark’ event this week.

“Celebrate Mardi Gras with the NBMAA!” says the Museum. “Enjoy a drink with friends, explore our galleries and special exhibitions, dance to local musicians, and unwind in a fun, New Orleans-themed creative environment.”

The event is to be Friday, February 28, 2020 at the Museum.

The event is to include music from the River City Slim & The Zydeco Hogs, and food available for purchase from Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ.

Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ will serve dishes including its Texas Sausage Jambalaya, and the Museum invites people to, “Have a slice of our ‘King Cake,’ a traditional Mardi Gras dessert, a cross between a coffee cake and french pastry.”

The Museum adds that, “this cake hides a secret; inside the cake will be a hidden idol, symbolizing good luck. Find the idol in your slice of cake to be crowned King or Queen of the party!”

The Museum invites people to face-painting and traditional Mardi Gras mask-making, adding that, “Guests can also get their fortune told with Bone Thrower Evernia Fay.”

The event is from 8:00pm to 11:00pm, and tickets, which are $20 for Museum members and $30 for non-members, are available on the Museum’s tickets website.

The NBMAA says that it,

is the first institution dedicated solely to acquiring American art. Spanning four centuries of American history, the Museum’s permanent collection is renowned for its strengths in colonial portraiture, the Hudson River School, American Impressionism, the Ash Can School, as well as the important mural series The Arts of Life in America by Thomas Hart Benton. The singular focus on American art and its panoramic view of American artistic achievement, realized through the Museum’s extensive permanent collection, exhibitions, and educational programming, make the New Britain Museum of American Art a significant resource for a broad and diverse public.

The New Britain Museum of American Art is a world class museum, located at 56 Lexington Street, adjoining New Britain’s historic Walnut Hill Park.
