Gov. Lamont Extends School Cancellation Through April 20th
Gov. Ned Lamont has extended his Executive Order cancelling public school classes in the state, “through April 20, 2020, unless earlier extended, modified, or terminated by me.”
Lamont’s Executive Order 7L, which he issued March 24, 2020, extends the cancellation of in-person school classes, saying that,
To promote and secure the safety and protection of children in schools related to the risks of COVID-19, Section 1 of my Executive Order 7C, canceling all public-school classes, is continued through April 20, 2020, unless earlier extended, modified, or terminated by me. Private schools and other non-public schools are encouraged to follow the same schedule.
Lamont’s Executive Order 7C had cancelled in-person school classes until March 31st.
New Britain school Superintendent Nancy Sarra sent a message to parents yesterday updating them about the Governor’s decision, saying that, “Governor Lamont has announced that schools will not reopen until April 20 at the earliest, with the potential for school to remain closed even longer.” Sarra added,
As we continue to deal with this ever-changing situation, I wanted to share this information to help everyone – students, parents, and teachers – prepare for our Interim Learning Plan to be in place until at least that date and possibly longer. While this kind of learning and teaching will be new to everyone, I take great comfort in knowing that we will be entering this together.
Sarra reminded parents that, “We must have your most updated address and working phone numbers. We plan to begin our Interim Learning Plan next Monday, March 30. Students will be expected to log into Google Classroom,” adding that additional information would be delivered to parents.
The school district has been posting regular updates for families on its website and facebook page.
