New School Meal Distribution Site at Jefferson School
The school breakfast and lunch program will now have an eighth distribution site during the COVID-19 school closings, the New Britain school system has announced.
The Jefferson Elementary School will be added to the seven other sites already open. The new site opened yesterday, April 13, 2020.
The other sites, the Consolidated School District of New Britain says are,
- Smalley School, 175 West Street
- New Britain High School, 110 Mill Street
- Smith School, 142 Rutherford Road
- Pulaski School, 757 Farmington Avenue
- Lincoln School, 145 Steele Street
- Diloreto School, 732 Slater Road
- Boys and Girls Club, 150 Washington Street
The school district says that,
The hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30 am -10:00 am and from 11:30 am -1:00 pm. All children ages 18 and younger can receive a free prepackaged breakfast and lunch. You may pick up both breakfast and lunch with one stop.
The additional site comes just after Gov. New Lamont has issued a new Executive Order extending the cancellation of in-person school classes through May 20, 2020. The new Executive Order extends the earlier Executive Order, which had closed schools through April 20th.
New Britain schools Superintendent Nancy Sarra announced on April 9th that the city’s schools, “will continue to work in our ‘Continued Educational Opportunities’ for all of our students.”
Sarra also said that, “The last day of school is now Friday, June 12, 2020.”
