Little Poland Festival Cancelled for 2020
Community leader Adrian Baron has announced, “It is with heavy heart, that we must officially announce the cancellation of the 2020 Little Poland Festival.”
“With optimistic hope,” Baron said, “organizers had moved the date from May 31 to July 26. Due to Coronavirus concerns, hosting a festival of over 30,000 packed visitors is just not feasible this year.”
The annual New Britain Little Poland Festival draws huge crowds to celebrate in the heart of the Broad Street neighborhood known as New Britain’s Little Poland. Over over 35,000 people from across the state, region and country flocked to New Britain in 2019 to celebrate the vibrant celebration of Polish culture, music and cuisine.
Baron offered his thanks to, “Festival Chairman Darek Barcikowski, Margaret Malinowski, Kasia Nowak, Lucian Pawlak and others for planning what was to be a spectacular festival.”
He said, “It was a decision we did not take lightly and included discussions with various state and local officials.”
Baron cited practical concerns about yet another tentative reschedule for the festival, with uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, saying, “Bands give up scheduled dates, vendors need time to purchase food and other items and out of state attendees book travel tickets and accommodations.”
Baron thanked people for their support for the festival, saying that,
We are proud that the Little Poland Festival has become New England’s largest Polish cultural festival. We love that it has become an annual tradition for families across the state. We love sharing Polish culture and celebrating the city of New Britain. We love that it brings the community together.
Baron promised that the Little Poland Festival, “will be back in 2021 with the most incredible festival yet.”
