School District Delays School Opening to Sept 8th
New Britain schools are to open on September 8, 2020 instead of the previously planned date of September 3rd, the school district has announced.
“As we continue to prepare our buildings for our students’ return, we will now begin school on Tuesday, September 8 instead of Thursday, September 3,” the Consolidated School District of New Britain announced on Facebook on Sunday, August 30th.
“We understand that it is a hardship for all of us,” the school district said online, “and that is why we have been planning all summer to ensure we have a model for educating your child either in school or remotely.”
“All students are expected to log on remotely during regular school hours on this day but for those who are choosing to attend school in person, please note that Cohort A (last names A-L) will be scheduled to be in school,” the school district said. “Cohort A will also attend school on Wednesday, September 9.”
The school district has published a “cohort calendar” that reflects the change in the starting date for school.
The school district added that, “On the 8th and 9th, all other students will log in remotely. On Thursday and Friday of that week, Cohort B (Last names M-Z) will attend school in person with all other students logging on remotely.”
The school district said that students whose families opted for full remote learning will be expected to log in during that entire week. Noting that the district has been distributing educational technology for students, the district said that, “Your child’s school principal will continue to reach out to you regarding additional distribution times this coming week.”
“We look forward to a smooth transition to the start of our school year and will be in touch with you regarding other announcements throughout the coming week,” the school district said.
