Library to Feature Virtual Movie Matinee
The New Britain Public Library will feature the 1949 film noir movie “D.O.A.” at its Virtual Movie Matinee tonight.
“Frank Bigelow,” Rotten Tomatoes says about the film’s main character, “is about to die, and he knows it. The accountant has been poisoned and has only 24 hours before the lethal concoction kills him.”
In the film, Bigelow, played by Edmond O’Brien, then sets out to find his own murderer. Directed by Rudolph Maté, Britannica, describes that,
D.O.A. is an emblematic film noir with much of the film told in flashback and a protagonist who cannot escape his doom. The jazz club where Bigelow is poisoned is one of the earliest screen depictions of the budding Beat movement of the 1950s.
The Public Library will present the film as a “Zoom Room” matinee event at 2:00pm, on Wednesday January 6, 2021.
The Library has a link to sign up for the presentation on its events calendar web page.
The New Britain Public Library says that, in its mission, it, “ensures that every resident has the opportunity to become successful and well-informed by offering resources, services and experiences that build skills and provide enrichment.”
