Democratic Council Candidate Questions Police Handling of Incident
Basil A. Green, a Democratic candidate running for City Council, is questioning the handling by the New Britain Police Department of an alleged recent incident involving his neighbors.
Green says that the alleged incident involved a property dispute with neighbors.
On social media, Green commented that,
On the date of 10/13 while working at home like I’ve done for the past 18 months. I witnessed the individuals depicted in the photos and video below entering my property. I watched them for a few before I began to take photos. The male and female below began removing, tossing, and destroying my property (as seen below). At that point I began to photograph and take photos Arica Paquette began videotaping as I contacted 911, while on the phone with dispatch I headed down to grab my things and to prevent further damage. It’s at that time the male went to his garage and grabbed a golf club and threatened to assault me, the female picked up pavers which belongs to me and also threatened to assault me as well (video if that will be uploaded as well). As I stepped in front of the couple to prevent further damage I was pushed with my back turned and “mushed” in the face still I did not retaliate instead I continued to ask them to leave. Several minutes later several New Britain police officers arrived, the officers refused to review the video at that time or the photos. After speaking a female officer having her view the video and photos she was appalled at what she viewed. The investigating officer in charge was reluctant to view the video or photos, instead he wanted to write myself and the other parties a ticket for breach of peace. Given the full recording of the incident I felt that to be highly inappropriate as my actions did not warrant any disciplinary action, they also refused to charge the parties with assault/battery or trespassing or destruction of property. Due the reluctance of the investigating officer to levy actual charges and requested that all parties be arrested and taken in. I did so in an effort to then provide the evidence of how this incident was handled by the New Britain police and to also provide the court with the actual evidence. As everyone know I’m in the middle of a local election 2 weeks away and I want to be able to tell my own truth and not have others tell a false narrative.
Green says that he had been attempting to obtain a police report on the matter since the alleged incident, but that, during the time that he was told that the police report was not available, an image of a “mug shot” of him had somehow ended up on social media.
Green says he was still told by police that the report was not available today, October 20th, but that later today, he was contacted by the New Britain Herald asking for comment about the incident. He says that a Herald reporter told him that newspaper was informed about the incident by the New Britain Police.
The New Britain Progressive attempted to contact the other people in the alleged incident, but was unable to locate their contact information before the publication of this article.
