Diaspora Society Offering ‘Readers of Diaspora’ Book Club for Teens
The Diaspora Multicultural Society is sponsoring an eight week “Readers of Diaspora” book club for teens, and is seeking applicants for limited space.
The Society says that, “Readers of Diaspora is an 8-week book club sponsored by Diaspora Multicultural Society, Inc. We are inviting teens in high school to join us as we explore a culturally diverse/inclusive book during an 8-week cycle over the school year.”
This program is free of cost to participants,” the Society says.
Participants in the program are to meet at the Diaspora Society each Wednesday, from January 19, 2022 to March 9th, but, the Society notes that, “In the event of inclement weather, meetings will proceed via Zoom.” The meetings are to be from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.
Applications for the program, available to high school students, are being taken via an online form (https://forms.gle/1qmUMaPs15MCk1Hn6).
“This program has limited space,” the Society say. “Participants will be confirmed by January 17, 2022.”
In the eight week program, the Society says, “The group will meet once per week to discuss and explore themes in the book.”
“One of our goals is to build a love of reading via relevant stories,” the Diaspora Society says.” In addition, participants will receive guidance and modeling to grow capacity in young leaders who will lead future discussions.”
The Society adds that, “Students will receive a hard copy of the book to keep, t-shirts, snacks during each meeting, and incentive bags upon completion of the 8-week program.”
The Diaspora Multicultural Society, Inc. says that it, “is a diverse social club that hosts events that appeal to many interests- from socially conscious programming to partying/laid-back good times.”
The Diaspora Society is located at 90 John Street.
