30th Annual Osgood Shoot-Out To Be Final Year
Widely honored Coach Darwin Shaw has announced that the Osgood Shoot-Out benefit basketball tournament, a venerable New Britain tradition, will return in 2022 for its final year.
“Giving Honor To God for bringing back the Osgood Shoot-Out for 2022,” said Shaw, the Tournament Director. “The 30th Annual Osgood Shoot-Out will take place on August 13 & 14, 2022 at New Britain High School.”
The tournament, “New England’s Biggest Summer Men’s Basketball Tournament,” has long been known for spirited competition and for bringing the community together. The tournament raises funds for scholarships.
Shaw noted that, “Although there weren’t any basketball games for the past two years due to the pandemic, the scholarships never stopped,” adding,
For the past 29 years, 87 Osgood & Albert A. Vieira scholarships have been awarded to New Britain High school graduates from this event. It has been my honor to shepherd this tournament from a small event to one of the most popular and successful athletic events in our region.
The event will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022, to Sunday, August 14th. It will be held at New Britain High School.
The team fees for high school teams, from Connecticut only, is to be $180. “No AAU teams,” organizers say.
The fee for teams in the open division is to be $250.
Noting the, “rising cost of renting the gyms and other expenses,” Shaw said that, “I am ready to move on to some new challenges.” Therefore, he said, “This, the 30th anniversary of the Osgood Shoot-Out, will be the final year.”
But, Shaw promises that fans of the Tournament can expect to see, “some of the great players, teams, scholarship recipients and sponsors who have been a part of the Osgood over the past 29 years.”
