New Britain Kids Participate in Hartford Marathon’s FitKids “Final Mile”
More than 130 New Britain Kids participated in the Hartford Marathon Foundation‘s FitKids in School final mile event, the Foundations says.
The event, at Rentscher Field on October 25, 2022, included, “Students from Lincoln Elementary School, Northend Elementary School, Pulaski Middle School, Slade Middle School, and Vance Elementary School,” the Foundations says.
“Our students did an amazing job and had tons of fun!” the Northend School commented online.
“A fun filled day for all,” Pulaski Middle School commented online. “Proud of our Generals! Way to represent!”
New Britain’s participation was approximately 137 out of the more than 650 student statewide, the Foundation said.
The Foundation said that the students, “took part in the celebration which was the culmination of weeks of training supported by the Hartford Marathon Foundation (HMF) through the Susie Beris, MD, Youth Running Program, designed to help inspire a lifelong love of running,” adding,
The FitKids in School program is free for participating schools and has served more than 20,000 elementary and middle school students since it began in 2008. Students participated in a 6-week training program throughout the fall and completed their final mile run at the October 25 celebration in East Hartford.
Each student was given a race shirt and earned a finisher medal to commemorate their weeks of hard work. After the race, they enjoyed fitness activities to celebrate their accomplishments and were provided snacks compliments of HMF and partners Dunkin’, Lesser Evil Snacks, and Bakery On Main.
The program, the Foundation says, is provided, “Through a generous endowment provided by Dr. Susan Beris, a Southbury pediatrician.”
The Foundation says that information about more of its upcoming events and programs is available on its website at www.hartfordmarathon.com.
