Staff Reports

FARMINGTON – State Rep. Mike Demicco (D-21) held off Republican challenger Joe Capodiferro in the Farmington-Unionville state assembly district as Democrats prevailed across the town’s ballot. Demicco received 5,486 (54.86%) to Capodiferro’s 4,919 (45.04%).

Demicco will begin his sixth term in January. Governor Ned Lamont and Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz defeated Republicans Bob Stefanowski and Laura Devlin, gaining more than 56% of the vote at the top of the ticket. U.S. Senator Dick Blumenthal (D-CT) and Democratic candidates for the state’s constitutional offices also won by double digit margins. By contrast, in 2018, Lamont narrowly lost to Stefanowski for Governor for the open seat to succeed Dannell Malloy in Farmington.

2022 Campaign

In the 22nd Assembly District that includes a portion of Farmington and Plainville, Francis Cooley, the Republican, edged Plainville Board of Education member Rebecca Martinez. State Senators Derek Slap (D-5) and Rick Lopes (D-6) representing Farmington were also re-elected.
