Black Democratic Committee Endorses Democratic Party Slate
The Black Democratic Committee of New Britain, founded by legendary community activist, Mr. Alton Brooks, has announced that it has endorsed the entire Democratic Party slate of nominees for the city elections.
The organization was recently re-invigorated by electing new officers, and says that its,
mission is to seek political candidates of color to endorse to increase the Black representation in the City of New Britain. But the committee also endorses political candidates whose values and principles are in alignment with those of the Black Democratic Committee of New Britain, which is to improve democracy in New Britain
In July, the Democratic Party endorsed a slate of candidates, led by Democratic Mayoral candidate Chris Anderson. With no primary challenges, those candidates are now the official Democratic Party nominees in the city elections in November.
Anderson will face incumbent Republican Mayor Erin Stewart, who was nominated to run for a sixth term by the Republican Party.
The Black Democratic Committee endorsed Anderson in the mayoral election, as well as Democratic City Council candidates Richard Lacouriere and Nate Simpson in Ward 1, Wilma Barbosa and Lori McAdam in Ward 2, Iris Sanchez and Candyce Scott in Ward 3, Neil Connors and John McNamara in Ward 4 and Luz Osuba and Francisco Santiago.
The Black Democratic Committee also endorsed Tim Yanchak for City Treasurer, David Grant and Colin Ivan Osborn for Board of Assessment Appeals, Sal Escobales, Joan Pina and Joseph Listro for Board of Education and Suzanne Bielinski, Carlo Carlozzi, Jan Sykes and Patrick Thomson for Constable.
