State Sales Tax Free Week Set to Begin

The state’s annual Sales Tax-Free Week is set to begin ahead of the upcoming school year.

State Rep Gary Turco (D-27) said, in a message to residents today, that,

Connecticut’s annual Sales Tax-Free Week begins on Sunday and runs through Saturday, August 24. It provides a chance to save money, whether it is taking the kids back-to-school shopping or treating yourself or your loved ones.

Rep Turco represents a neighborhood in New Britain’s East Side, as well as Newington, in State House of Representatives. He is a member of the New Britain state legislative delegation that includes, Sen Rick Lopes (D-6), Rep Manny Sanchez (D-25), Rep Bobby Sanchez (D-26) and Rep Peter Tercyak (D-26).

“Retailers throughout the state offer additional discounts on clothing and footwear during Sales Tax-Free Week, providing consumers with even more ways to stretch their spending power,” said Rep Turco.

Gov. Ned Lamont (D) said this week, “This year’s tax-free holiday lands a little earlier to give families a head start for the back-to-school season, which will be here before we know it. As always, I encourage shoppers to take the time to stop by some of Connecticut’s local businesses and support our amazing small business community.”

Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz (D) added that, “Sales Tax-Free Week is a great opportunity for Connecticut families to get back-to-school ready and save money at the same time. Parents and caregivers can save on needed clothing and everyday footwear items to help their kids kick off the school year with confidence. I hope our residents will take advantage of these savings and shop at their local small businesses, allowing those dollars to be reinvested in their communities.”

“During this tax holiday,” added Turco, “most clothing and footwear items priced less than $100 are exempt from Connecticut’s 6.35% sales tax. The exemption applies to each eligible item costing less than $100, regardless of how many of those items are sold to a customer in the same transaction. It applies to purchases made in-store, online, mail-order, and over the phone.”

Rep Turco directed residents to the state Department of Revenue Services website on the Sales Tax Free Week, “for a list of exempt and taxable items.”

The annual Sales Tax-Free Week is from Sunday, August 18, 2024 to Saturday, August 24th.
