Council to Consider Award of Contract for Overlook Avenue/McKinley Drive Drainage Project
The City Council will be asked, at its upcoming meeting, to approve a contract award of $2,147,633.75 to Colossale Siteworks Corporation of Berlin for the Overlook Avenue/McKinley Drive Drainage Improvements Phase 2.
The project is being funded by the city’s use of $2 million from COVID relief funds that the federal government provided the city. The proposed resolution to award the contract adds that, “construction costs which exceeds $2 million or available ARPA funds will be 100% City funding through the Clean Water Fund.”
The resolution says that the project,
will install a 54″ Drainage Pipe on McKinley Drive between Governor Street and Hale Lane. The work includes installation of new pavement, new concrete curbing, new concrete sidewalks and pedestrian ramps to meet current ADA standards, new concrete driveway aprons, replacement of existing catch basin tops and installation of new catch basins.
The city listed nine bids that it received from companies for the project, ranging from a high of $3,474,410.70 to the low bid of $2,147,633.75 from Colossale Siteworks Corporation.
“The Director of the Public Works Department,” the proposed resolution says, “is therefore recommending the bid be awarded to Colossale Siteworks Corporation of Berlin, CT who was determined to be the lowest responsible bidder and met all of the Bid Specifications.”
The resolution is on the agenda of the September 11, 2024 Council meeting.
Neighborhood activists and Council members have been advocating for another major flood control project, the $13.9M Allen St. Drainage Improvements and Reconstruction Phase 2 Project. The city has promised $4.2 million to that project and state legislators are pressing for the remaining $9 million from the state.
