Rep DeFronzo Introduces Legislation on Infrastructure and Insurance Cancellations

Rep Dave DeFronzo (D-26) has announced that he has introduced legislation on municipal infrastructure and notices of insurance cancellations.

“The bills I put forward reflect the issues people are dealing with in New Britain,” Rep DeFronzo said. “I know there are a lot of proposals out there right now, but I’m hopeful there will be opportunities for these bills to move through the legislative process.”

One bill Rep DeFronzo introduced would, “assist cities and towns with infrastructure repairs.” DeFronzo said that, “Residents should not have to deal with repeated flooding because of aging sewer and water systems. This program would provide some state assistance for very specific projects to aide cities and towns.”

DeFronzo’s office said that,

The plan would create a fund that can be accessed by municipalities to help cover the costs of medium to large scale infrastructure projects. A small portion of the state’s surplus would be used to fund the program while maintaining the traditional hard cap for the Rainy Day Fund at approximately 15% of the General Fund. The proposal is in response to ongoing flooding issues impacting the residents in the Roxbury Road neighborhood.

Another proposal would, “require insurance companies to send a certified letter to customers if they plan on discontinuing home or auto coverage.” Rep DeFronzo said that, “This is a small thing, but it would be an added layer of protection for consumers.”

“We’re not saying insurance companies don’t have the right to terminate coverage,” said DeFronzo. “We just want to make sure people know when their coverage is coming to an end.”

Sen Rick Lopes (D-6) and Rep DeFronzo have also introduced, “a bill asking the Department of Transportation to place signs on route I-84 indicating the exits for Little Poland.”

“The Broad St area, and Little Poland, in particular, are a destination in New Britain. We want to make it as easy as possible for people to get there,” said DeFronzo

The legislation will be sent to legislative committees for further consideration.
