Free Community Health Clinic Open To City Residents
Central Connecticut State University’s (CCSU) Nursing Department is offering health screenings for New Britain area residents as well as faculty and staff members of the University at the Community Health Education Clinic.
The walk-in clinic, located on the ground floor of Nicolaus Copernicus Hall, 180 Paul Manafort, Sr. Drive, is free and open to the public and provides free screenings for blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, vision, thinking and memory and body composition every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Residents were introduced to the student-run clinic at a February 24th Town & Gown meeting, one of a series of forums held several times a year for neighbors in the vicinity of the Stanley Street campus organized by the Office of Student Affairs.
The student-run clinic managed by faculty and staff members is “not a primary care or medical clinic” and “does not diagnose or manage medical conditions.” According to the CCSU program “we advise clients to follow up with their primary care provider” for treatment and prescriptions. Students and staff assist those without a provider with options.
The clinic addresses an array of community health needs giving students’ experience in a community health clinic setting. In addition to nursing, students who staff the clinic are earning professional degrees in social work and family counseling, athletic and exercise science.

The clinic also offers educational talks on health and wellness topics that require registrations. In the Spring semester, for example, presentations include a mindfulness practice session, life transitions and self-care bingo.
