Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Annual Wreath Laying Planned, With Location Changed to Right Now Ministries

Jan Edwards, President of the Mary McLeod Bethune Club, has announced that,

Due to the forecasted rain expected to affect our state this Saturday, April 12th we will be relocating the Wreath Laying Ceremony indoors to Right Now Ministries, located at 295 Arch St., New Britain

The annual Wreath Laying Ceremony, held in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., has been held in New Britain for decades in remembrance of the assassination of the Rev. Dr. King on April 4, 1968.

Edwards added,

Let’s come out and celebrate the life of Dr. King and pass down this important tradition to the next generation. The theme is: “Literacy for Justice.”

“The program will still begin promptly at 11:00 AM,” Edwards said.

The ceremony is traditionally held at the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Monument, where it had been planned this year, as well.

“The wreath-laying and flag-raising ceremonies will be rescheduled for a later date,” Edwards noted. “Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to seeing you this Saturday!”
