We Are $8M Short for the Allen Street Project On Mayor Stewart’s 12 Year Watch!
All of our recent flooding updates and narratives with photos, video interviews, documents, etc. are published on-line in the New Britain Progressive’s “Flooding Series”. Presentation #34:
To: Our Neighborhood Flooding and Sanitary Back-Up Victims, Concerned Citizens/Taxpayers, City and State Officials:
City Officials continue to deflect the Allen St. Problem to our State Officials. Where is it written and/or mandated that the state must bail out each town and city when they have an infrastructure problem? In our case, New Britain Officials have neglected and mismanaged the problem for over 30 years, including 12 years on Mayor Stewart’s watch.
In case you missed it, over many years our City Officials have received hundreds of millions of earmark free dollars from our State and Federal partners. Mayor Stewart has ignored and continues to ignore the Allen St. Problem by NOT FULLY FUNDING the Allen St. Project.
In fact, when Stewart’s allies had the chance to redirect $3.5M in existing bonding money to the Allen St. Project, they balked settling for $2M.
Mayor Stewart is still $8M short for the Allen St. Project. Per Director Moriarty, the Bid Ready/Shovel Ready Allen St. Plan is nearly complete, the funding is not. After 12 years in office, it looks like Stewart and her allies will fail the flooding and sanitary back-up victims in Ward 4 again.
As we debunk Stewart’s talking points, Erin invents more. City Officials comment; The residents in the Allen St. neighborhoods do not show up for public participation opportunities. Our flooding and sanitary back up victims have become numb to the process, apathetic because city officials have mislead all of us far too long.
Folks are leaving our neighborhoods because of the neglect in Ward 4. This is not a political problem; It’s a human problem. Our quality of life continues to suffer, our safety continues to be in harm’s way and our properties and structures are at risk. All of this is out of our control!
Sharon and I have put in over $100K into our property over the last 2 months mitigating and rehabilitating our property and structures preparing for more flooding. We have the receipts.
Meanwhile, local officials continue to pass the buck, kicking the can down the road. We were forced to use our savings to protect our home because of city neglect and mismanagement.
Our tax dollars are suppose to provide us with fully functioning storm-sewer-sanitary systems. We were forced to spend our savings along with many of our neighbors to mitigate and rehabilitate our properties and structures because Stewart and her allies have failed us over the last 12 years despite our pleas for help.
We will continue with our advocacy campaign for our neighborhood, block and property. We need solutions with full funding from our local officials… Not more delays and deceptive deflections.
Thank you.
